CAFS-Postharvest Horticulture Training and Research Center

PHTRC have specialized laboratories specifically for the postharvest science of tropical horticultural crops. The laboratories can generate basic data such as morpho-anatomy, biochemistry, pathology and entomology, postharvest physiology, biotechnology, and engineering of tropical horticultural crops. UPLB students specializing in Postharvest Horticulture or those taking postharvest courses also have access to these laboratories. Some services are provided, subject to approval depending on the availability of personnel and equipment.

The Management Systems Engineering Program is created to assist public and private organizations in developing and implementing the management systems needed to provide for the timely delivery of high-quality, cost-effective output. Established in 2012, the laboratory has research and instruction facilities which have numerous researches and projects accomplished, with the faculty members serving as project leaders.

CEAT-Instrumentation Laboratory

The Instrumentation Room/Laboratory is the area at which the equipment for Gas Chromatography, Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry, Liquid Chromatography are located, together with other high-end equipment of the Department of Chemical Engineering such as the Fermac fermenter/bioreactor, Thermo Scientific Heratherm incubator, and Fisher refractometer. This laboratory is designated only for analysis of samples of undergraduate and graduate thesis students, and samples from research projects.

The Human Systems Engineering Program (HSEP) plays a vital role in the design of any work system. It considers human capability and limitations to be able to apply them to the design, development, and deployment of systems and services to ensure its optimum performance and safety. As such, HSEP provides students, local and national organizations, and researchers with capability and expertise in human systems for better product designs and work environment. CEAT-Innovative Engineering Materials Laboratory

This laboratory is equipped with specialized equipment used for testing different construction materials including concrete, steel, and timber. The main feature of the laboratory is a 1000 kN Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and a Direct Shear Testing Machine.

CFNR-Forest Products Chemistry Laboratory

This is a teaching laboratory used by students in wood chemistry, pulp and paper technology and non-timber forest products. This laboratory is capable of doing proximate analysis of wood, bark and other lignocellulosic materials, nanocellulose production using acid hydrolysis and mechanical refining, and other chemical tests of pulp. The laboratory also supports the conduct of externally-funded research as well as thesis work of undergraduate BS Forestry, BS Chemical Engineering (Major in Pulp and Paper Technology), and BS Agricultural Chemistry students and graduate students in MS/PhD programs.

CAFS-Meat Research and Service Laboratory

The Meat Research and Service Laboratory (Meat Lab) of the Animal Products Science and Technology Division in the Institute of Animal Science is one-of-a-kind meat research and service laboratory complex in the Philippines. It is capable of evaluating physical (color, firmness, muscle fiber diameter, and tenderness), physico-chemical (muscle pH, water holding capacity), chemical (proximate composition, nitrite content, salt content), microbiological, and sensory characteristics of meat and meat products. It has four sections, namely, chemical laboratory, physico-chemical laboratory, microbiology laboratory, and a sensory evaluation complex.
