Call for Participation: National Conference on Philippine Lakes Resources Conservation and Development

The University of Rizal System, in partnership with the Rizal Provincial Government and Municipal Government of Tanay, Rizal, will be holding a National Conference on Philippine Lakes Resources Conservation and Development with the theme “Philippine Lakes Resources Conservation and Development: Challenges and Adaptation Amidst the Changing World” on May 29-30, 2013 at Bakasyunan Resort and Conference Center, Plaza Aldea, Tanay, Rizal.

 

The conference aims to provide information on the status, threats, conservation, and development strategies for the various lakes in the Philippines. Specifically, it aims to achieve the following objectives: (1) Exchange state-of-the-art knowledge on lake science, adaption strategies, planning and management, and vulnerability and impact assessment tools, in the context of sustainable lake management among stakeholders; (2) Gather relevant information and best practices on lake management and development that can be upscaled on other regions; and (3) Provide opportunities for networking of different lakes stakeholders for collaborative activities on lake management and related endeavours.

 

The target participants are researchers, academicians, policy makers and planners, development workers, fisher folks, and other professionals and non-professionals from different government and non-government organizations. A registration fee of Php2, 500.00 will be charged to each participant to cover the cost of food (to be served starting dinner of May 29, 2013), conference kit, certificate of participation, and other related expenses. The participants will shoulder the cost of their accommodation and hence are advised to arrange with the available hotels and inns in the area for reservation.

 

UPLB faculty and staff are invited to participate in the said conference and to submit research papers for oral and/or poster presentation in the conference. Papers to be submitted must be within the scope of any of the following thematic areas: Lake Governance (Policies & Initiatives and Social Mobilization & Participation); Lake Productivity & Sustainability (Biodiversity and Resources & Waste Management). Abstract of paper must be submitted on or before April 26, 2013 and full paper on May 10, 2013.
