The Philippine Agroforestry Education and Research Network (PAFERN), University of the Philippines Los Banos-Institute of Agroforestry (UPLB-IAF) and the Bohol Island State University (BISU) are jointly organizing the 6th National Agroforestry Congress with the theme "Agroforestry: Greening and feeding the nation in the 21st Century". This year's National Agroforestry Congress will be held on November 20-22, 2013 in Tagbilaran City. As most of you now, the National Agroforestry Congresses are held every two years to provide a forum for recent developments, issues and concerns in agroforestry development and promotion in the Philippines.
The 6th National Agroforestry Congress is being convened to: a) share recent and innovative agroforestry development initiatives in addressing food security, ecological stability, poverty and other cross-cutting issues of development; b) ventilate issues and concerns confronting agroforestry development and promotion in the Philippines; and, c) map out the roles of agroforestry, including the prospects and challenges in agroforestry promotion towards the 21st century.
Individuals and institutions from different sectors (e.g. local government units, state colleges and universities, national government agencies, research and extension institutions, people’s organizations, private sector) are invited to submit abstracts for the Concurrent Paper Presentation and Poster Presentation on the following topics:
- Environmental rehabilitation and climate change adaptation through agroforestry. This sub-theme will cover research outputs and extension programs that will prove the role of agroforestry in environmental rehabilitation; research and development programs in line with the promotion of agroforestry as a climate change adaptation strategy; and, farmer-level or on-the-ground researches highlighting the role of agroforestry in climate change adaptation
- Agroforestry and its role in ensuring food and nutritional security. This sub-theme will dwell on research and development programs, including policy research on the contributions of crop diversification, particularly agroforestry in addressing the problem on food and nutrition security
- Strengthening the science of agroforestry. This sub-theme will highlight the experiences of different academic and research institutions in promoting the science of agroforestry through the implementation of academic programs in agroforestry, current status of the offering of the BS Agroforestry program, and building-up the knowledge and theories on agroforestry via their cutting-edge researches.
