The University of the Philippines Los Baños Interdisciplinary Biofuels Research Studies Center (UPLB-IBRSC), in cooperation with DA-BAR, will be holding the event “Sweet sorghum as Feedstock: A Milestone for Bioethanol Fuel Book Launching and Stakeholders Forum” on December 4, 2018 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.
The book entitled “Sweet sorghum as Feedstock: A Milestone for Bioethanol Fuel”, published by the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Agricultural Research and the University of the Philippines Los Baños, is authored by Dr. Rex B. Demafelis (Professor and Vice-Chancellor for Research and Extension) and co-authored by Dr. Domingo E. Angeles (Professor), Ms. Lisa Stephanie H. Dizon (University Researcher), Engr. Kristel M. Gatdula (Instructor), Engr. Amabelle A. Pector (University Researcher), and Ms. Haya Faye R. Rivera (Science Research Specialist). The book is the culmination of a series of researches on sweet sorghum as a smart crop for bioethanol covering the most recent breakthroughs in its agro-economic competence, technology development for conversion into ethanol, and corresponding economic assessment.
Recognizing the importance and benefits of nutrition-sensitive agriculture, the UPLB Interdisciplinary Studies Center on Food and Nutrition Security (UPLB ISC-FaNS), in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), and the Cavite State University (CvSU) is holding an international conference on nutrition-sensitive agriculture and food systems with the theme "Strategic Approaches to Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture and Food Systems." The conference will gather advocates and stakeholders of nutrition-sensitive agriculture to assess NSA programs and activities in the ASEAN region, including the Philippines.
The Institute of Cooperatives and Bio-Enterprise Development (ICOPED) of the College of Economics and Management (CEM), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) holds the International Conference on Cooperatives (ICOOP) every three years as part of its commitment and advocacy to promote national and global cooperative development. ICOOP was first held in November 2012 during the International Year of Cooperatives and is now on its third round.
ICOPED will hold the 3rd International Conference on Cooperatives (ICOOP2018) with the theme, “Cooperative Transformation in the Changing Global Economy” on November 15-16, 2018 at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) Conference Center, Tagaytay City, Philippines. ICOOP2018 will highlight the cooperative responses to our dynamic and rapidly changing economies and societies driven by globalization, structural transformation, market and business innovation, institutional reforms and climate change, among others.

What is EnerCon?
EnerCon 2018 will provide a timely venue for a wide range of stakeholders in the energy sector to share information and insights pertinent to sustainable energy adoption and development in the ASEAN and around the world. Expect plenary presentations from renowned experts and/or practitioners in the field of Energy and the Environment as well as a mini-exhibit of selected energy-related industries and organizations. Keeping to the theme of this year’s conference, “Energy and the Environment: Challenges and Opportunities amidst the ASEAN Integration towards Inclusive Growth," other relevant local and foreign stakeholders will also be presenting in parallel sessions on the following thematic areas:

EnerCon 2018 is spearheaded by the Department of Economics (DE), an academic degree granting unit of the College of Economics and Management (CEM) of the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) in Laguna, Philippines. Having initiated efforts for information exchange relating the Economics of Energy and Environment with its National Forum on Energy Economics 2014 and EnerCon 2015, the DE intends to expand the knowledge base on Economics, Business, Technology, and Policies relating to Energy as well as the impact of energy generation and use on the Environment by organizing this triennial event.
