Alternative Ubod Production Technology
This technology makes it possible to specifically grow coconut palms for ‘ubod’ production, thus, no need to cut down mature coconut palms to get ‘ubod’. The technology is a high-density plantation using a sorjan planting system, and is technically and financially feasible as a commercial endeavour. The coconut palms are planted in a 1 x 1 square meter plot, provided with enough water and fertilizer, and are harvested the second year after planting. Approximately 20% of the plants in the plot will have grown 100 cm in girth and the rest of the palms will be ready for harvest by the third year. Each tree yields at least 5 kg of ‘ubod’.
