BIOTECH-Food, Feeds, and Specialty Products Molecular Genetics Laboratory

The Laboratory engages in research activities on molecular biotechnology and microbial genetics such as, but not limited to genetic characterization and identification of molecular markers for BIOTECH’s microbial resources.

The Laboratory is also involved in research projects on molecular – based methods of detecting and characterizing plant, animal and foodborne/waterborne disease-causing microorganisms, and in the screening and identification of bacteria with antimicrobial properties.

It also provides services and technical assistance on PCR-based detection of foodborne pathogens using the BIOTECH-developed DASTM kits for Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella species.
