OVCRE's Extension Section holds Public Service Forum - Part 2

The second part of the UPLB Public Service Forum was held Thursday, 07 May 2015 at the auditorium of the Institute of Cooperatives and Bio-Enterprise Development (ICOPED). The half-day forum’s theme is “Way Forward for UPLB Public Service.” It was attended by extension coordinators and representatives from different UPLB units.
Speakers for the forum included: Dr. Maria Victoria O. Espaldon, former Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension; Dr. Rogelio V. Cuyno, former Director of the Office of the Director for Extension; and Dr. Emil Q. Javier, former UP President.
Dr. Espaldon talked about how UPLB’s public service is perceived in the field with her presentation entitled “Extension: The Face of UPLB Public Service on the Ground.” Dr. Cuyno discussed ways and techniques to intensify UPLB extension in “Intensifying/Reframing the UPLB Public Service Initiatives.” Dr. Emil Q. Javier, on the other hand, shared his stories and experiences in public service and extension during his term as UPLB Chancellor and as UP President.
During the open forum, the speakers commented on the issues and concerns raised by the participants. The issued raised during the open forum went beyond public service and extension as issues regarding workload, promotion, and tenure were also briefly discussed.
Vice Chancellor Rex B. Demafelis of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, who gave the welcome remarks, was also present during the open forum. He also contributed his opinions and voiced out his support for the Extension personnel.
