Spearheaded by the UPLB-Interdisciplinary Biofuels Research Studies Center (IBRSC) and in partnership with the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR), the Department of Energy (DOE), and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the first day of the 2015 Philippine International Biomass Conference was held yesterday, 16 June 2015, at the Widus Hotel and Casino, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.

With the theme Exploring the Market Potentials of Biomass for Bio-based Fuel and Energy, the first day of the Conference highlighted the Philippine government’s enforcement of Republic Act 9367 or the Biofuels Act of 2006 which laid down the fundamentals of securing energy resources through alternative means. The DA-BAR, DOE, and DENR acknowledge the market potentials of biomass and are now in full support of the conversion of agricultural and forest crops and residues to bio-based fuel and energy.

The second half of the day gave way to a couple of private organizations currently helping partners find appropriate solutions in generating cleaner and affordable energy. The President and CEO of Full Advantage Phils. and the VP for Business Development of SDL Citadel presented cutting edge technologies in converting biomass to energy.

As of last count, 108 participants from different GAs, LGUs, and the academe attended the first day of the Conference. The second day promises to be another productive session and the attendees are looking forward to the most awaited Business Matching portion of the Conference.

A Press Conference was also held simultaneously with various local print and broadcast media in attendance.
