UPLB partnered with Manila Bulletin to showcase some of its most popular technologies in the recently concluded Urban Agriculture 2016 held last 27-28 February 2016 at the activity center of Trinoma Mall in Quezon City.
Through the UPLB booth, visitors learned about some of UPLB’s technologies which include Edible Landscaping, SNAP Hydroponics, IPB Var6 Corn Grits, and BIOTECH’s line of biofertilizers among others. UPLB products were also sold during the exhibit cum trade show. Visitors were able to take home UPLB’s top quality seeds, biofertilizers, and corn grits. Representatives from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension (OVCRE), the Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB), the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH), and the UPLB Center for Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship (UPLB CTTE), manned the booth and entertained questions from visitors.
A lecture on Hibiscus Breeding was also given by Mr. Alangelico O. San Pascual, research assistant from IPB, in behalf of Dr. Pablito M. Magdalita who could not grace the event due to prior commitments. The lecture sparked the interest of visitors in trying to make their own Hibiscus varieties through the presented breeding methods.
Hosted by Manila Bulletin’s Agriculture Magazine, the event aimed to become a gateway of opportunities for farm hobbyists and enthusiasts who live in the metro. It is a trade show which included exhibits, seminars, workshops, and special demos.
