An orientation on the Geographic Information System (GIS) and ArcGIS software was held at the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension (OVCRE) Annex Main Conference Room last 15 June 2016.
Geodata Systems Technologies Inc. (Geodata) conducted the orientation with the agenda of promoting the utilization of the ArcGIS Education Campus Site License Program (ESL). As a support to the PHiL-LIDAR 1 Project of UP-DOST and UPLB, Geodata made ArcGIS ESL available. This program aims to provide licenses to UPLB offices, increase the number of instructors capable of using GIS, and to maintain ESL at UPLB.
The orientation started at 9AM. The welcome remarks were given by Ms. Ruth Almario, Development Management Officer III, and head of the Project Development, Monitoring, and Evaluation Section (PDMES) of OVCRE.
Mr. Owen Lagunday, Industry Manager and Vertical Team Leader of Geodata, discussed GIS and the ArcGIS platform. “It puts together information and formation. It’s a powerful tool for mapping. It actually links data to geography,” he said.
After the discussion, Mr. Ricson Soriano, another representative from Geodata, demonstrated how to use the ArcGIS platform. An open forum followed the demo.
Students, faculty, and staff from the different colleges and units of UPLB attended the orientation. Free licenses were given to those who registered. Those who were not able to attend the orientation may still request a free license from PHiL-LIDAR.
