Spearheaded by its Extension Section, OVCRE held “UPLB and the FOI: Freedom of Information in the Academe” on 12 January 2017 at the IPB Seminar Room.

The half-day event featured a discussion on the various aspects of Executive Order No. 2 on Freedom of Information (FOI), especially in its implications to academic institutions like UPLB. Atty. Kristian R. Ablan, Assistant Secretary for Policy and Legislative Affairs of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), served as the forum’s resource speaker.

ASec. Ablan briefly introduced the principles behind FOI before proceeding with a discussion on the processes involved in FOI. He also talked about the boundaries of Freedom of Information. He presented the list of exceptions to the EO which enumerates the types of information which cannot be shared or disclosed to the public.

During the forum, Dr. Rex B. Demafelis, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension delivered the Chancellor’s welcome message while Dr. Susan May F. Calumpang, Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension delivered the event’s closing remarks.
