Shoot Culture and Plant Regeneration in Benguet Lily (Lilium philippinensis) |
---|
Micropropagation technologies have been developed for the Baguio lily. This technology was developed because the Baguio lily is endemic and has a high potential for global horticulture. The shoots of the lily are recovered from complete plants, the excised shoot tips and nodes are then placed in simple culture media. Round structures appeared on shoot tips, leaves, nodes and internodes on cytokinin (BAP-supplemented) culture media. These round structures later developed into growing shoot-like cultures or complete plants. The plantlets are readily able to adapt and survive potting out to a moist potting mix of coconut coir dust and soil. The aerial or basal microbulblets are obtained by prolonging the culture duration up to 3 months.
