| Alternative Construction Material from Recyling Paper Mill Sludge |

        | Paper mills in the Philippines generate large amounts of sludge everyday and ways of disposing these are limited. Cement and sludge mix ratios of 60:40 can be used to manufacture boards of different thickness (i.e. 6 mm, 12 mm, 18 mm). Calcium chloride, sodium silicate, aluminum sulfate and china clay are added to make the curing and hardening of the boards faster. Cement boards made with sludge have mechanical and physical properties comparable to those of other cement-bonded boards made in the Philippines. The fibers bond well together and the sludge does not inhibit cement setting. These are good materials for exterior and interior walls, partitions and ceilings. |
