Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) using zeolite-coated plastic film maintains freshness and prevents yellowing of broccoli. The gaseous composition inside the enclosure or bag is altered or modified, whereby oxygen concentration is lowered and carbon dioxide level is enhanced. The current practice of ice topping broccoli requires removing and replenishing the ice at the airport which is very cumbersome from the point of view of the producers and buyers. Thus, MAP using zeolite coated film is a better substitute to ice topping.
