PCR-Based Detection Kits for Food and Feed Bacterial Pathogens
The kits can detect Salmonella, E. coli and S. aureus in food, water and animal feed by making use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) which can increase the number of a certain region of deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA in a short time. The kit contains a specifically-selected and designed primer that is necessary for DNA amplification. The time to complete the PCR-based detection protocol is 26-28 hours including the two-step enrichment stage. The detection protocol includes a short enrichment period to allow multiplication of the organism, simple DNA extraction steps, amplification of DNA in a thermal cycler and gel electrophoresis.
