Pinching and Flower Removal to Increase Ampalaya Leaf Yield
The production of ampalaya (Momordica charantia L. cv ‘Makiling’) is being actively promoted since its leaves are found to be effective against the mild, non-insulin dependent type of diabetes mellitus. By practicing pinching and flower removal, farmers can increase the leaf yield of ‘ampalaya’ especially during the dry season. The production technology ensures farmers/crop growers of increasing the leaf yield of ampalaya to meet the growing demand for leaves as a raw material for diabetes medicine.
