Micropropagation Technology for Yam (Dioscorea alata L.)
The micropropagation technology for yam (Dioscorea alata L.) was developed through in vitro culture of nodal segments. It includes the pregrowth of tubers in a greenhouse, the pretreatment of the vine source and the disinfection of nodal segments. The nodal segments resumed growth on half strength MS agar medium. Plants that grow from the nodal segments serve as sources of nodes for multiplication. This technology is useful for the ‘Kinampay’ variety of yam.
