The Extension Section of UPLB’s Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension organized and hosted the first UPLB Public Service Forum on March 12, 2015 at the Seminar Room of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH). The theme of the forum was “Public Service in the Context of UPLB Extension Initiatives.” Extension coordinators from different UPLB colleges and units attended and participated in the forum.
The forum served as a venue where the University’s extension practitioners exchanged information about the current issues and trends related to extension. Participants engaged in a workshop wherein they defined public service in the context of extension. They also drew the necessary elements for creating UPLB’s Public Service and Extension Framework.
The forum’s speakers featured past and current UPLB extension practitioners which include: Dr. Rita P. Laude from the Institute of Biological Sciences, who discussed Public Service in the Landscape of the Academe; Dr. Virginia R. Cardenas from the College of Public Affairs and Development, who discussed the Extension Function in the Context of Public Service; Dr. Enrico P. Supangco from the Center for Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship, who talked about Reflections of the UPLB RDE Thrusts; and Prof. Maria Teresa D.V. Arejola from the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts, who presented Public Service in Cultural Exchange. The speakers guided UPLB’s extension practitioners in understanding the University’s public service mandate in the context of UPLB’s extension initiatives.
