The University of the Philippines Los Banos received six prestigous awards during the 36th Annual Scientific Meeting of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) last July 9-10, 2014 held at the Summit Hall, Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) , Pasay City.


Four UPLB researchers named DOST Scientist I

Four researchers from the University of the Philippines Los Baños were conferred Scientist Rank under the Scientific Career System (SCS) last June 30 at Eastwood Richmonde Hotel, Libis, Quezon City. Named Scientist I were Dr. Nelly S. Aggangan, Dr. Edwin P. Alcantara , Dr. Cristina M. Bajet, and Dr. Susan May F. Calumpang.

BIOTECH wins NICE Likha Award

UPLB BIOTECH’s entry “Microbial Rennet for Cheese Making” won First Place in the Outstanding Creative Research (Likha Award) category of the 2012 National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE). Dr. Susana Mercado, the sole inventor of this technology, took home a glass plaque and a P50,000 cash prize during the awarding ceremonies held last July 14, 2012 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.


PHILVOCS' Solidum lectures on earthquake awareness

In celebration of the Ecology Awareness Week, the Environmental Biology Division of the Institute of Biological Sciences held a seminar on “Earthquake Hazards and Risks in Metro Manila and Nearby Provinces” last July 23, 2012; with no less than Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr., Director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) lecturing.
