UPLB conducts seminars on LSI to neighboring communities

The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) through the initiative of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension (OVCRE), and in cooperation with the National Crop Protection Center (NCPC) conducted seminars about the Lanzones Scale Insect or LSI in Calauan and Alaminos, Laguna on 30 March and 11 April 2017 respectively. LSI feed on the leaves of the fruit trees causing them to fall off. This poses a threat to lanzones farmers as the yield of lanzones will significantly decrease.

UP REPSS holds 4th Annual Scientific Conference and 8th General Assembly Meeting in Lucban, Quezon

The UP Society of Research, Extension and Professional Staff (UP REPSS) conducted the 4th Annual Scientific Conference and 8th General Assembly Meeting on March 15-17 at the Batis Aramin, Lucban, Quezon, with the theme “REPS Responding to the Challenges of Sustainable Development Goals.” The three-day event consisted of paper and poster presentations, plenary sessions, business meetings, and team building and outdoor activities. The participants gathered to listen to 21 poster presentations; 2 special plenary sessions; and 18 oral paper presentations, 6 of which are competing papers.

UPLB and DA celebrate 30 years of partnership

UPLB officials, headed by Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., welcomed representatives from the Department of the Agriculture and several LGUs to the UPLB Institute of Plant Breeding on 7 March 2017 for the UPLB-DA Partnership Visit in commemoration of 30 years of continued cooperation between UPLB and DA.

UPLB MNH features Hoya plants in Epicenter

The UPLB Museum of Natural History (UPLB MNH) put the spotlight on the different Hoya plants by conducting “EpiCenter,” a seminar and exhibit, last 06 November 2015. Hoya plants are epiphytes, or plants that grow upon trees or other plants. Its flowers are star shaped and appears in a spherical pattern.
